Megger Overhead Line Testing System

Key Features:

  • Detect overhead line faults before re-energisation
  • Locate impedance changes over 2,000 km
  • Identify breaks, shorts and poor connections
  • Safely discharge induced voltages during testing
  • Test one-, two- or three-phase lines
  • Deliver high-power 1,500 V test pulses

The Megger Overhead Line Testing System helps engineers inspect disconnected overhead power lines before they return to service. Used with a Teleflex reflectometer, it identifies impedance irregularities that could damage equipment or compromise network reliability. As a result, maintenance teams can detect faults before re-energising overhead lines.

The system detects breaks, short circuits, branch-offs, poor connections, faulty insulators, in-growing trees and changes in conductor cross-section. In addition, it provides excellent resolution across both short and long distances, allowing accurate fault location on overhead lines of all voltage levels. Smaller impedance changes can also be identified by comparing measurements with a reference trace.

The Overhead Line Testing System uses a dedicated switch-on unit that safely discharges induced voltages and currents to earth during testing. Furthermore, the pulse generator version produces 1,500 V test pulses with a 20 µs pulse width, making it suitable for testing overhead lines exceeding 2,000 km. The system also supports one-, two- or three-phase testing to suit different network configurations.

Designed for utility maintenance and transmission network operators, the Megger Overhead Line Testing System improves testing safety while delivering reliable fault location over very long distances.
