The Megger BIFRÖST is a 20 kV DC high voltage measuring bridge for professional cable fault location. It is designed for demanding applications involving long HVAC and HVDC cable systems.
The BIFRÖST uses the voltage drop method with a four-wire bridge measurement. It supports one or two auxiliary wires. As a result, measurements remain independent of contact resistance in the HV test leads and auxiliary wires.
The system provides an accuracy better than 1% of the total cable length. It also supports cable segmentation through the integrated cable editor. Users can enter individual cable segment temperatures to support accurate measurements.
For fault conversion, the BIFRÖST provides high-frequency burning. Burn currents reach up to 850 mA, depending on the selected voltage range. In addition, the instrument provides insulation, DC breakdown and DC sheath testing.
The BIFRÖST also supports sheath fault prelocation and pinpointing. These functions use HV bridge measurement, pulsed DC and the voltage gradient method.
For field work, the unit features an IP43 weather-resilient design. Its 25 cm industrial touchscreen provides clear visualisation of voltage, current and measurement results. Furthermore, the internal discharge unit handles up to 150 kJ at 20 kV DC.
